Emerging Knights edge out battling Warriors

Despite a superb bowling effort from the Emerging Warriors- led by Newbuildings pair Trent McKeegan and Charlie Downey- it was the Emerging Knights who claimed the points in the first of this week’s Future Series games at Stormont this afternoon.

Trent claimed 4-43 and Charlie 3-20 with Josh Wilson chipping in with 2-28 as the home side were dismissed for 176 in a match reduced from 50 to 31 overs because of rain.

Ollie Metcalfe with 29 and skipper Paddy Beverland (28) had fared best with the bat for the NCU lads who were reduced to 95-7 in the face of some excellent bowling.

The game was to turn in the last 12 overs however as Carson McCullough made 47 and Adam Leckey 16 as the last three wickets added a hugely valuable 81 runs.

The Warriors lost quick wickets too at the start of their reply before an 88-run stand between Raymond Curry (39) and Scott Macbeth (37) opened the game back up.

McCullough however was to prove a thorn in the North West’s side- his 3-20 and Ben Snell’s 2-41 combined with a couple of run outs saw the young Warriors close on 159- a 15-run defeat.

The two team are in action again in a T20 at the same venue starting at 10.45am tomorrow (Thursday).
