Defeat for Warriors in opening IPT20

The North West Warriors fell to a disappointing defeat on the opening day of this year’s IPT20 tournament as Boyd Rankin’s charges lost by 7 wickets to the Northern Knights at Sydney Parade.

The Warriors found runs hard to come by batting first, with only Scott Macbeth (37) and Kian Hilton (22) getting going in a total of 119 all out.

Jared Wilson (16) and skipper Andy McBrine (14) fared best of the rest with Tom Mayes (4-28) and Matthew Humphreys (2-30) doing the damage with the ball for the NCU side.

Mark Adair’s team rarely looked like missing out from there and a typical Paul Stirling knock of 59 (5 fours, 4 sixes) helped them over the winning line with almost six overs to spare.

Leinster Lightning, who started with a win against the Munster Reds, will provide the opposition in Thursday’s second match for skipper McBrine’s men.
