Coleraine’s Women’s season closes with defeat to Bready

It’s been another solid year for Coleraine’s women cricketers even if the Sandel Lodge outfit finished their 2022 campaign with a defeat at home to Bready on Monday night.

An unbeaten 56 from Alana Dalzell (7 fours) provided the backbone of the visitors 118-3 from their 20 overs; Cody Wallace next best with 13.

The hosts were never at the races after that if truth be told- Kenya McCartney (14) and Amy Caulfield (10) the only batters to reach double figures in a reply of 55 all out.

Despite the result, Stephen McCartney agreed that this summer was another step on the road for the north coast club.

“Yes it’s been an enjoyable season- we now have two teams competing in the Women’s League and to finish in the top three of the Premier Division and reach the semi-final of the cup is good progress” he said.

Stephen has been a real mainstay in the growth of women’s cricket at Coleraine both as a coach, a parent and an administrator- also finding time to keep the cricket media right for scores and photos all season.

He did however want to pay tribute to the people who were very much a part of the backroom team.

“I want to acknowledge the work of Adam Bell, Ravi Karunaratne and Wilson Torrens who put in a lot of time and effort, and to our ever-reliable scorer, Pearl McCartney.”

“We’ll definitely be back in 2023 and looking to continue our progress once more.”

The game between Eglinton and Fox Lodge was postponed as the village ground was required for a Youth Cup fixture.
