Coleraine girls post first win

There were just two games played in the Women’s League on Monday night after Eglinton v Killyclooney was called off earlier in the day due to unavailability. There was plenty of action in the other two however, starting at Strabane Park where Stephen McCartney’s young Coleraine side posted their first win in just their third ever game at this level.

The Bannsiders had been getting close in those first two matches and were worthy winners against the Strabane Saints in a 7-wicket victory. The home side had started really well with Kylie McGarrigle (18) and Anji Porter-McHugh (13) putting on 34 for the first wicket, before the bowlers took control.

From there, Coleraine turned the game right around as Kia McCartney (3-4) and Georgina Miller (2-3) bowled their side right back into the match. Strabane’s batters all struggled to get going after their good start and their 16 overs ended in a total of 63-8.

The home side picked up a couple of quick wickets at the start of their reply as Courtney Deans claimed 2-21 bur Eva Gaston with an unbeaten 26 and Kenya McCartney with 12 got them over the line with a bit to spare.

In the night’s other game Bready posted a 45-run win over Fox Lodge at Ballymagorry. Batting first, the Magheramason side posted a total of 104 with Alana Dalzell top scoring with 48 and Jemma Rankin adding 16.

The Foxies struggled to keep pace with the bat and were always behind on the rate. Hannah McLaughlin’s 21 was the best of the reply while Steph Wilkinson claimed 3-5 and Jemma Rankin 3-7 from a couple of excellent spells as Fox Lodge made 59-9.
