Coleraine and Bready with Monday night wins
Bready kept their unbeaten run going in the Women’s Senior League on Monday night in a bizarre game at Eglinton.
The league leaders seemed set to have their business wrapped up early after they bowled the hosts out for just 26 with opener Arianna McKenna making 20 of those!
Steph Wilkinson claimed 3-11, Vanessa Buchanan 3-14 and Cody Wallace 2-0, but any thoughts of a walkover were blown away in the first ball of the reply as Alice McLaughlin bowled Kaylee Barnard with a peach.
In all, the stumps were hit 12 times during the game (a photographers dream!)- Alice with four of those in a super spell of 5-16.
Rea Moore, the only other bowler used in the Bready innings was excellent too, as she picked up 3-11. Those two had the visitors in all sorts of trouble at 14-8 in reply, but they were just able to hang on courtesy of a 9th wicket stand between Rachel Hepburn and Abbie McKnight.
A great game of cricket but John Pierce might need to buy new stumps next week with the hammering they got.
Up at Strabane Park, Coleraine’s impressive form continued as they beat the home side by 96 runs.
An unbroken stand of 115 between Kia McCartney (49) and Eva Gaston helped the Bannsiders to a dauting 154-2 from their 20 overs.
Amy Caulfield (26) and Rachel Johnston (10) were also among the runs with Naomi Wasson claiming the two wickets to fall.
Strabane were never really in the hunt chasing that score- Chloe Deans top scoring with 10 as they were bowled out for 58.
Kia bowled superbly for figures of 4-3, which included a hat-trick, with two wickets each for Georgia Miller and Chloe Torrens.
Things are certainly heating up at the top, just in time for the start of the cup competition.
