‘Clear Currency’ ISC and National Cup draws announced

For the first time in three years the ‘Clear Currency’ Irish Senior Cup (ISC) and National Cup competitions will be played across the Unions in 2022 and the first round draws were unveiled by Cricket Ireland on Friday night.

In the ISC, all-conquering Brigade have been handed a really difficult start away at three-time competition winners, North Down. The Comber side haven’t lifted the trophy for more than 25 years, but will provide a stiff challenge to Andy Britton’s European Cricket League finalists.

Bready are also on the road- the Magheramason men heading to Sandymount for a very difficult tie against YMCA while Eglinton are Dublin bound as well, as they take on 2009 winners Leinster CC.

Coleraine have been drawn away at Merrion who have accounted for the Bannsiders a couple of times in this competition in recent years- the last of those in 2016 when the southerners won a bowl-out on their way to lifting the cup outright.

Five time All-Ireland finalists Donemana will be pleased to have come out of the hat first  against Cork Harlequins, while there was also a home draw for Newbuildings, who will no doubt relish the visit of Carrickfergus to Foyle View arena.

Ardmore entertain Instonians at the Bleachgreen while Fox Lodge can look forward to hosting The Hills at Ballymagorry.

In the National Cup, St Johnston will fancy their chances as they head to 2016 finalists, Laois while The Nedd are off to Cork for what should be an interesting couple of days!

Killyclooney have a somewhat shorter trip over the Glenshane where they’ll take on Cregagh while a quartet of local teams are starting with home draws.

Burndennett have potentially pulled the short straw as they welcome five-times senior cup winners North County to Tyrone while just up the road, the Red Caps will host Dublin Civil Service.

Ballyspallen entertain Templepatrick at Bridge Park while Glendermott will start favourites against Athlone at the Rectory.

Bonds Glen have been handed a ‘bye’ into Round 2.

First round games in both competitions are scheduled for Saturday 21 May with Sunday 29th set as the reserve date.
