Bready Women clinch senior title

Bready have retained their North West Senior Women’s title after a convincing 40-run victory over Coleraine at Sandel Lodge on Monday night.

Alana Dalzell’s superb 81 not out was by far the highlight of the visitors total of 140-3 from their 20 overs, with Kenya McCartney (2-28) proving the pick of the Bannsiders’ bowling.

The home side had few answers in reply- Kenya again faring best with 26 not out and Amy Caulfield (13) the only other player in double figures as they scored 90-7.

The result confirmed Bready’s title win ahead of this Friday night’s cup final against Fox Lodge, who warmed up for that one with a win of their own at Bonds Glen.

In a low-scoring contest the young home side could only muster 64-9 from their 20 overs; Karen Haslett making 21 (including batting alongside her daughter Sarah) while Kara Bates (3-11) and Elle Moore (2-8) best with the ball.

Hannah McLaughlin (21) and Mollie Devine (20) combined to give the Foxies a 5-wicket win; but not before the Young girls had picked up a couple of wickets apiece to keep the score very respectable.

In the night’s other game, Jenni Jackson made 24, Lucy Carmichael 20, Arianna McKenna 18 and Alice McLaughlin 16 as Eglinton set Strabane 115 at the Park.

Naomi Wasson returned stunning figures of 5-14 and Nicola Mullen 2-25 to give the Red Caps hope; however their lack of depth with the bat was again their undoing.

Alice picked up 4-7, Jenni 3-5 and Zara Craig 2-4 as the reply closed on 33.
