Bready to host Ireland v New Zealand in 3-match series

Cricket Ireland has announced an historic 3-match T20 Men’s International Series between Ireland and New Zealand at Bready CC in June 2020. In what is sure to be an exciting year ahead, Bready and the NWCU are set to host the World Cup Finalists and a team ranked as one of the best in the world.

Peter McCartney, NWCU General Manager, expressed his delight with the fixtures:

This is fantastic news for cricket in the North West. Both Bready and the NWCU have been working hard to secure a series of this calibre and we are delighted to confirm the 3-match series against New Zealand in June 2020. Bready successfully hosted Afghanistan in 2018 and Zimbabwe in 2019, and it’s a great testament to their dedicated volunteers to be now hosting New Zealand.

This represents a major boost for the region as a whole and I’m sure we will see great support from all in the NWCU and further afield. We have been actively engaging with funding partners for the past year, to not only bring high-profile fixtures to Bready, but also ensuring these games have a legacy and participation programme that inspires boys and girls to play cricket at all levels.

2020 is set to be a very busy summer for Irish cricket with 15 home international games. Whilst it is brilliant to see so many games, it does bring a number of challenges.  The Unions, host venues, Match Allocation Group and Cricket Ireland have shown excellent partnership in finalising the fixtures and we are looking forward to producing a fantastic summer of cricket across the island.

Brian Dougherty, NWCU Chairman, was also pleased with the news:

This announcement is great news and is reflective of the years of great work by Bready CC and the Union. It represents the success of a collaborative approach between ourselves, Cricket Ireland and Derry City & Strabane District Council. Special thanks must go to the Boards of the NWCU and Bready CC who really stepped up to the mark this past 2 weeks and also to our General Manager, Peter McCartney, for his innovation.
