Bready March On In NW Women’s League

Bready continued their winning run in the senior Women’s League on Monday night as they posted a 9-wicket victory over Eglinton at Magheramason. The home side were on top throughout- dismissing the villagers for 59 despite a 35-run opening stand between Zara Craig (17) and Lucy Carmichael (12).

The bowlers took over after that with Charley Scott (2-4), Steph Wilkinson (2-10) and Sophie Killen (2-11) all among the wickets. To their credit however, Eglinton knuckled down and managed to bat out the overs, closing on 59-8 at the end of 20.

Bready wasted little time in rattling off the target- Abbie McKnight with 4 fours in her 35 not out while Alana Dalzell made 18 before being out just before the end.

Coleraine’s good recent run was ended at Ballymagorry after an excellent effort with the bat from Sarah Black. The Fox Lodge opener hit 8 fours in a superb 71 not out while her opening partner Emma Allen added 26 in a first wicket stand of 92.

Lucy Neely made an unbeaten 10 to take the home side’s total to 123-1 at the end of 20 overs, but the Bannsiders gave it a real go in reply.

Eva Gaston batted really well to make 52 not out (4 fours) but elsewhere, the home team’s bowlers were on top. Kara Bates (2-19), Sarah Black (2-21) and Lucy Blair (2-22) were all on the mark as Coleraine closed on 102-8; going down by 21 runs.

The game between Killyclooney and Strabane was postponed due to a bereavement.
