Bready, Bonds Glen and Strabane Women all start with wins

Champions Bready, Bonds Glen & Strabane all started with wins on Monday night as the 2024 women’s league season got under way.

Coleraine were the visitors to Magheramason and despite their excellent progress over the past couple of seasons, the Bannsiders found their hosts too strong on the night.
Connie Block (16), Kia McCartney (15) and Hannah Skinner (13) were the three batters to get to double figures as Coleraine were dismissed for 82.
Millie Spence (3-14), Sophie Hamilton (2-7) and Jodie Spence (2-13) did the bulk of the damage with the ball for the holders.
Bready had little difficulty rattling off the required runs- Kayleigh Barnard with 27* and Lucy McGranaghan 18 in a 7-wicket success.
Bonds Glen won a low-scoring at Eglinton to get their new campaign off to a good start.
The home side could only muster 61-5 from their 20 overs; Meghan McClintock the best of that with 15 not out.
The Bee Gees lost 7 wickets on their way to victory- Steph Wilkinson making 13 and Cherith Thompson 10, while Alice McLaughlin (3-10) and two wickets apiece for Jenni Jackson and Lucy Carmichael kept the villagers in the hunt throughout.
Strabane had a first night win as well as Chloe Deans’ side beat Newbuildings by 11 runs.
Emma Doherty made an unbeaten 29 while Hazel Britton and skipper Deans both added 17 as the Red Caps chased down Nebuildings’ total of 94 to win by 4 wickets.
Ella Wasson picked up 2-20 with the ball and the same player top scored with 19 in her side’s innings.
Abaigh Gillespie was superb with the ball as she claimed 4-24 with Nicola Mullen (3-32) and Emma Doherty (2-14) helping complete a good win.
