Balbirnie on form as Lightning beat Warriors

An unbeaten 81 from Ireland skipper Andrew Balbirnie helped Leinster Lightning to a comfortable 8-wicket win over the North West Warriors on Day 2 of the season’s first IPT20 Festival at Sydney Parade.

Balbirnie hit 7 fours and 6 sixes in his knock; sharing in a 113-run stand with Lorcan Tucker (44) as the hosts chased down the Warriors’ 148-6 with seven overs to spare.

Jared Wilson made a quickfire 39 (4 fours, 3 sixes) with Scott Macbeth adding 21* and Liam Doherty 21, while skipper Andy McBrine and Shane Getkate chipped in with 17 apiece in the North West team’s innings.

George Dockrell was best with the ball; he claimed 3-21 as Lightning made it two wins from two alongside the Northern Knights who had earlier beaten the Reds to keep their 100% record intact as well.

That now leaves both Munster and the Warriors win-less heading into their meeting tomorrow morning as the first phase of competition draws to a close.
