Back-to-back wins for North West Warriors

Boyd Rankin’s North West Warriors posted their second bonus point win in two days as they powered past Leinster Lightning at The Mardyke in this afternoon’s Rario IPT20 contest.

It was a victory built on a superb effort in the field as the Warriors dismissed the Dubliners for 99 runs with Cian Robertson picking up 4-20 in an excellent spell.

Trent McKeegan, fresh from his ‘four-for’ yesterday added 2-12 here, with the other bowlers used Ryan Macbeth (1-18), Jared Wilson (1-24) and Scott Macbeth (1-24) also among the wickets.

Lightning never looked likely to chase down their target of 180 at any stage and it took a late 27 (3 sixes) from Barry McCarthy and 19 from Samuel Harbison to get them close to three figures in reply.

Earlier, the North West side had looked on target for a competitive score after Stephen Doheny (33), Jared Wilson (20) and Aaron Gillespie (15) had laid a bit of a platform.

The fireworks were yet to come however- Shane Getkate with a superb 34-ball 55 (8 fours, 1 six) sharing a 46-run partnership with William McClintock (34) which came off 20 balls.

That really lifted the momentum of the Warriors innings; McClintock clubbing Gavin Hoey for 4 sixes in the same over to help his side to their 180.

Special mention to Barry McCarthy for his magnificent spell of 4-12 from his 4 overs; we’re reliably informed that it was the cheapest four wicket haul in the history of the IPT20 competition here.

This week’s trip ends tomorrow for the Warriors when they take on the Northern Knights (11am start) before setting back on the long trek home.
