2018 LONGS SUPERVALU PREMIER DIVISION FIXTURES
2018 Longs SuperValu Premier Fixtures
We are pleased to announce that this year’s Longs SuperValu Premiership and Championship fixtures are now available and attached below. The Union is grateful to Regional Administrator David Bradley for his work in generating these fixtures with the Qualifying League games to follow over the coming days.
Champions Donemana face a tough start in the defence of their title as they travel to Bready on opening day, which is a week early this season (21 April) to accommodate those wanting to see Ireland’s historic Test match against Pakistan.
Ricky-Lee Dougherty’s team were on the receiving end of a hammering in this fixture last year and they may well be given another stern test against Davy Scanlon’s improved side in their first outing.
Brigade are likely to provide strong opposition to the Holm men this season but they will need to be at their best as well if they are to make a winning start at Eglinton.
The villagers, like Bready, are capable of a big summer although much could depend on Stuart Thompson’s availability.
Andy Britton’s men are believed to be in the hunt for a couple of players to bolster their squad with the club also reporting last week that they expect the vast majority of last season’s players to remain at Beechgrove despite strong rumours to the contrary.
Strabane have been very quiet in the transfer arena and the Red Caps make the short journey to Ballymagorry for what could well be a vital contest against Fox Lodge.
Brian Allen’s side expect to line up much the same as last season and will be hoping to hit the ground running to avoid any relegation scrap.
The final Day 1 pairing sees Ardmore entertain Coleraine- two sides who will be expecting to compete for top-half finishes in the league.
The Bleachgreen boys found things a bit tougher last season and struggled to make any impact after a slow start.
Coleraine look like going with an all-local policy this year and despite the return of South African Graham Hume they may have to content themselves with a season of consolidation.
There are league games scheduled for Week 2 as well (28 April) before a fairly lengthy break to accommodate the 1st rounds of both the Bank of Ireland and Irish Senior cups and the Group stages of the North West T20 as well of course as the free weekend for the Test game.
